A misconduct is an unacceptable or improper behavior, especially by an employee or professional person. Every company experiences employee misconduct from time to time. It’s something that all companies have to deal with, and it can happen at any time.

However, there are employees who may have had more than one instance of committing the same misdemeanor. Some companies need to make sure that these don’t keep recurring.

That’s why there are Employment Forms for Misconduct that help companies seek out, in a formal way, just what it is an employee did that might require disciplinary action.

Why Discipline Is Important to Prevent Further Misconduct

Discipline in the workplace is the means by which supervisory personnel correct behavioral deficiencies and execute company rules. The purpose of discipline is to correct behavior that is deemed inappropriate or unacceptable within the workplace. It is not designed to punish or embarrass an employee but to improve an employee’s standing and how he’s looked upon by others.

If unacceptable behavior is a persistent problem, or if the employee is involved in a misconduct that can no longer be tolerated, management may use discipline to correct the behavior.

Basically, discipline should be restricted to the issuing of letters of warning, letters of suspensions, or actual termination. Employers should refrain from disciplining employees through unacceptable methods; examples would be altering that particular employee’s work schedules, assigning an employee to do unpleasant work, or denying vacation requests. That would just give the employer a bad reputation and could decrease morale within the workplace.

Employers should always make sure that they’re fair and just when it comes to handling employee misconduct.
