What Is a Termination Form?

A termination form is a business form that the company owner uses to notify the employee that his time working for the business ended already. In another sense, a termination form functions as a formal way of notification to end a poorly-producing or ill-mannered employee.

Some may think that a termination form does no function when an owner can merely verbally fire the employee. However, the company still needs to undergo the due process of termination, or it might seem that the dismissal was not legal. There are legitimate ways of how to fire an employee. Papers give officiality and legality; thus, a termination process must follow.

It is not ethical if an employee finds termination without a proper assessment of whether his dismissal is valid. Following a due process helps the company determine whether the removal was of a valid reason. Assessment is a priority since the termination has various possible reasons or scenarios. Maybe the dismissal was not conducted out of the management’s decision but the employee himself. Nevertheless, both the company and the employee need to know why the termination occurs because, as we mentioned, there are various reasons for the deletion of the employee to occur.

Causes of an Employee Termination

Termination does not only mean the company firing an employee for bad behavior. Employee termination has many different reasons. And that is why there is a section dedicated to the stating cause of the employee’s termination. As we mentioned, employee termination occurs for various reasons. And a termination form may also be another presentation of an employee resignation form. It may be that the employee has other reasons for wanting his termination to occur.   • Involuntary – One of the most common scenarios of an employee’s termination is the decision made by the management. It might be that the employee did not pass the productivity rate or that the employee was ill-rooted. Both scenarios are common causes for the management’s decision to give termination upon the employee. An employee, in this case, has no particular means to avoid such inevitability when the judgment of the management falls. However, the management can opt to give the employee one last chance to explain himself. From the employee’s explanation will the management conduct their final decision. Although, this scenario does not always follow with every company.
  • Resignation – Another cause for an employee’s termination is the voluntary option to take the sample resignation. Employees resign from their post for a multitude of reasons, and most of those stem from the company not giving what the employee needs. Maybe it is in the way the management handles the company, or the compensation may be low despite the employee spending three years being a servant of the company’s wishes. Some retire as earlier than expected since some employees gathered the needed amount of money that they deem will help them live out their last days on earth. In this scenario, a termination form may then be in the mode of a retirement letter as this name fits perfectly than the former.
  • Contractual – Contractual businesses exist to secure both the company and the employee from any breach of the agreement. Contractual workers only have a specified number of months that they need to complete. When the contract limit comes to pass, the employee may want to sign another contract with the company should they wish to continue with the position. The employee also cannot do anything to keep the work since it was in the sample agreement. This set-up is more manageable for the company since they only need to see if the employee is abiding by the contract.
  • Abandonment – Have you heard the term AWOL? This term is popular in the military when a soldier abandons his post. This term and its meaning also apply to the workplace. When an employee suddenly goes AWOL or disappears from the company with any prior notice, the management terminates his information as a worker on their premises. AWOL is a wrong move by an employee for the act that does not give the company the needed transition phase. The company needs time to adjust to your departure, and going AWOL will risk the production and operation. AWOL incidents look very bad for some companies, fearing that the employee might also do the same thing.
  • Death – Naturally, when an employee suddenly dies from accidents or illnesses, companies terminate them from their system. The termination does not happen in a cruel manner but in a way that still respects the employee’s efforts and time given to the company. Some companies even provide some form of compensation to the bereaved family of the deceased employee. Deaths are not taken lightly anywhere else, and so proper recognition of the employee’s deeds must follow suit.

How to Create an Employee Termination Form Template

Termination forms are easy to create since there is not much detail in the sample form. The document can be as simple as a resignation letter. Step 1: Make an Initial Draft

Planning is always the best course before one sets out to make something. Outline a draft of how you should make the document. Step 5: Conduct an Assessment

Assessment is always a needed process when delving into the making of an output. Review your file for any errors or mistakes that you may find. Review also the grammatical contexts for any misrepresenting sentence.

Termination is part of the life cycle of an employee. Some live to work for years, and some don’t live for more than a month. However, termination is an inevitable process, and through separation forms, the employee may find freedom from the custody of the company and moves to whatever decision he wants to make.
