What Does Release of Information Mean?

Some records of information have such confidentiality which is protected and secure by Federal Law. What Is Protected Health Information?

What Does a Release of Information Specialist Do?

Often known as front-line greeters, these Release of Information specialists are trained individuals responsible for facilitating data and records of any client while following specific rules and regulations for the protection of confidentiality.

Most of the time, they are the ones receiving queries from walk-in individuals or via electronic communication. Basically, these Release of Information Specialists are expected to provided a quality customer service with their clients. Other than these general duties of an ROI, here are other responsibilities that they must know:

  • A Release of Information Specialist must log in all important information
  • Patience must be their key characteristic as a release of information specialist will be communicating with several clients in a day and other clients may not understand the value of confidentiality.
  • ROI specialists must have knowledge with word processors, database queries and management, spreadsheet programs
  • ROI specialists must be organized and pay close attention to detail

  • Some ROI specialists may be required to request information from other places

How To Write a Release of Information Letter?

Either you are requesting for your own record or you’d like to request for someone else’s records, you need to write a Release of Form letter. It’s as simple as writing your personal love letter but it’s more formal. To give you an idea on what should be included in your letter, consider these things:

  • Observe proper formatting
  • Start with your salutations
  • Give the specific authorization details (for representative)
  • Supply the basic information: patient’s information, records to be released, and purpose

Formally, a letter of consent for release of information or maybe an authorization for release of information should be addressed to either a Release of Information Specialist or to a person of higher authority in an organization or institution.
