income affidavit form

When filing for a visa, asking for a bank loan, or applying for financial aid or scholarship, you will most likely be asked to submit a written affidavit of your total earnings and/or assets along with other requirements. In the legal world, this affidavit is officially called an income affidavit.

It’s important to note that an income affidavit is also a signed affidavit. By signing the document in front of notary public or lawyer, you attest to the document’s veracity and accuracy. Institutions use this written declaration in determining a person’s financial capacity or lack thereof and then make corresponding decisions.

What is Income Affidavit?

An income affidavit is a printed official attestation of your or your family’s total income from wages, assets, stocks, inheritances, trusts, and savings. Universities use parents’ income affidavits to determine a student’s eligibility for financial aid. While banks and financial institutions use income affidavits to determine a person’s credit worthiness. Governments and embassies use income affidavits as a supporting document when deciding to a person’s visa eligibility.

Income affidavits do not always apply to wage-earners. A person (housewives and young adults who still stay with their parents) may still fill out this form even if he/she does not work nor earn money. This may apply to housewives and young adults who still stay with their parents. If you want to know how this form looks like, you may check these sample affidavit forms in Word.

How to Write an Affidavit of Income

Affidavits of income, just like financial affidavit forms, can usually be obtained from institution/s who require them. They would most likely have their own standard forms that you will only need to fill out in addition to other forms that you may also need to submit and then have the form notarized.

If you want to write your own affidavit of income, the main information that you should include in the affidavit are the following: your name, present address, age, current monthly/yearly income (from salaries, business profits, trusts, etc), date of notarization, your signature and lawyer’s signature and/or seal.

How to Determine Affidavit of Support Income Requirements

Foreign nationals who wish to immigrate to another country like the United States will need to have a sponsor. This sponsor will bear the financial responsibility of supporting the immigrant in the new country.

To process the immigrant’s visa, the sponsor will need to sign an Affidavit of Support. Countries have varying requirements for its citizen to be able to sponsor an immigrant.

These requirements will often include a person’s tax bracket, yearly earnings, and current household size. To get accurate information regarding the income requirements that will apply to your case, first check with the federal guidelines for that current year and review the affidavit of support forms available on the government website.

Guidelines of Income Affidavits

Writing Income Affidavits using affidavit form templates is easier than crafting your own from scratch. But whatever method you use in filling out an affidavit of income, take note of the guidelines we’ve listed below:

  • Be honest with all the financial data that you share in the income affidavit.

  • Income Affidavits are confidential and will only be read and reviewed by the specific institutions who have requested them.

  • Affidavits of Income are legal documents. If something changes in your financial status, make sure to inform the institution who required the Income Affidavit and ask to amend the affidavit. By doing this, you decrease any chances of perjury filed against you.

  • If you have questions or clarifications about what was written in the affidavit, make sure to ask your lawyer before signing the document.
