leadership evaluation form samples

A Leader is a person who has the ability to lead or command a group of people. Many people can be appointed as leaders but not everyone can become an effective one. An effective leader is one who is able to create an inspiring goal for the future, motivates and inspires his team to pursue the specific goal, is able to properly manage the delivery of that goal, and can coach a team in order for them to accomplish that goal together.

True leaders are skilled in the art of leadership, and leadership is the art of being able to convince people to achieve a vision not out of force but because they are passionate about it. Since leadership requires skill and art toward attaining a goal, not everyone has the capacity to be a good leader, which is why Leadership Evaluations should be periodically conducted to determine if a manager, a supervisor, or a head of a department still has the ability to act or perform as an effective leader.

A Leadership Evaluation is a type of assessment that is conducted with the aim to calibrate the performance and effectiveness of appointed superiors. But the big question is, what makes a true leader? Below is a list of characteristics that should be found in an ideal leader:

Is Self-Aware

A good leader has a familiar knowledge of his strengths and weaknesses. A person who is in tune with his inner emotional state will more or less be able to determine his own capabilities and limitations, and will allow the person to push himself to optimize his potential.

Has a Vision

A good and effective leader is someone who is able to work toward a goal or an objective, and use that goal to drive his team toward success.

Motivates His Members

A good leader is not someone who pushes his title and position down everybody’s throats. Instead, he is someone who can motivate and encourage his team members to become passionate about pursuing or accomplishing a task, so that everyone becomes productive and people will be inspired to achieve something every day.

Is Socially Aware

A good and effective leader is one who is able to identify his team members’ strengths and weaknesses, and can identify which ones among his team have more influence and which ones need more training or aid in the group.

Has a Sense of Self-Direction

Ultimately, a good leader needs to be able to direct himself effectively. He should be organized and not procrastinate, he should be someone who can complete his tasks accurately and efficiently, and above all, a good leader should be able to calm himself when angered or provoked.

Pro-active

A leader should be skilled at problem solving, looking ahead, and at not being satisfied with things as they are. He should be able to make quick decisions and at the same time analytical enough to consider all options.
