recommendation forms

If you have not checked your credit reports in a while, you might have missed some glaring credit errors. Unaddressed misinformation can lower your credit score and perhaps even point to fraudulent transactions done in your name. Where to start with correcting this?

The most common solution is to file a credit dispute form with your credit reporting agency or credit bureau (e.g. Experian, TransUnion, Equifax). Credit disputes function as Complaint Forms that demand further investigation and correction of report errors.

Here are some credit dispute form samples to give you an idea. Each are free for download in PDF and Word document formats.

Dos and Don’ts in Filing Your First Credit Dispute

  • Address the dispute to the credit reporting agency. If you deal only with the furnisher, for example, the lender who is responsible for an error in your report, you won’t be able to sue in case the lender fails to correct the error.
  • Check the terms of agreement you signed with the credit bureau. This will help you out when you have to support your case and win it.
  • Document and safely keep evidence of the discovered error and the harm it causes you.
  • Include enough information in your dispute letter. A free-form letter may seem cumbersome to the process, but this will help you out if you need to take your case to court.
