A medical order is a formal order pertaining to medical matters. This is done by the physician or healthcare personnel that gives authority to the administration. These state that a patient needs to undergo series of diagnostic tests. Writing an order is said to be the most common way of delegating authority. There are actually two types of orders: standing orders and direct orders.

Standing orders are conditioned upon the occurrence of clinical events. These are often used when all patients meet the criteria for the order, then they receive the same treatment. How to Write a Medical Order
