The DMV or Department of Motor Vehicles is a government agency that administers the registration of vehicles and providing licenses to drivers. When a vehicle is being sold, the transaction has to be recorded in a Vehicle Bill of Sale Form and submitted to the DMV.
Whether the vehicle is a motorcycle or a car, and whether it is used or brand new, a bill of sale has to be used to document the transaction. Bill of sale writing is one of the responsibilities of someone who wants to sell a motor vehicle. This benefits both the buyer and the seller.

What is a Vehicle Bill of Sale?
A Vehicle Bill of Sale is presented to the DMV or Department of Motor Vehicles during the sale or transfer of ownership of a motor vehicle. A duly accomplished Vehicle Bill of Sale does not necessarily make the transfer official, but it documents the transaction or sale of the vehicle. For the transfer of ownership to be official, a Transfer Form and Release of Liability has to be filled out and submitted to the DMV, along with other requirements. Aside from Vehicle Bill of Sale Forms, we also have other Blank Bill of Sale Forms that are used in the transfer of ownership of other properties.

Guidelines in Writing a Vehicle Bill of Sale
Before you start writing your Vehicle Bill of Sale, you must first prepare certain requirements that you would need to present upon the submission of your Vehicle Bill of Sale. For vehicles, you would need to present the title. You should also prepare the registration certificate. It could either be a yearly registration or a more long term registration. Then, you would need to take note of the vehicle identification number (VIN). You may find this under the hood of a car, on the steering wheel, or on the vehicle’s manual.
You should then fill out all the other information needed, such as the full name and address of both the buyer and the seller. You may also include the full name and address of the person who owned the vehicle before the seller, if any, to make the sale more secure. Then, include the price of the item. You should also include any warranties or returns, if there are any that are agreed upon.
After all information is indicated, you should remember to proofread the finished form to ensure that there aren’t any information left out and to ensure that you did not make any mistakes. You may also see our DMV Bill of Sale Forms for more samples on how to write a Vehicle Bill of Sale.
