The Different Levels of Corporate Performance Evaluation

Performance within an organization happens on varying area levels. As such, a manager will have to evaluate performance at each of these.

This could mean evaluating based on

  • individual vs. group/departmental performance (past compared to present)
  • periodic basis – routine evaluation weekly, monthly, quarterly, and/or annually

And this will have to be done for all tiers of staff

  • employee’s performance
  • manager’s performance
  • other leaders’ performance

You can also focus on assessing the effectiveness of certain core departments of the business; e.g. the customer service department.

Ideally, evaluation for a quality-conscious company – (which should be most every company) – should happen frequently. A monthly basis is the most doable, while quarterly and annual provide opportunities for more in-depth and overall comprehensive appraisals.

There are also different methods of issuing and conducting these evaluations. The three most common options are

  • employer/manager evaluation of employee
  • peer evaluation
  • and self-evaluation

Naturally, the type of evaluation form you choose will change depending on the scope, focus, period, and method of evaluating. (You might want to check out some Self Evaluation Form Samples for your options.)
